Other Voices – Spoken Word Cabaret (Other Voices / PBH’s Free Fringe)
By Elizabeth Jewell | Published on Sunday 11 August 2013
With the Banshee Labyrinth decked out to look part-cave, part-boudoir, you can tell you’re in for something special; ‘Other Voices’ is a showcase of spoken word at its best. Slick, confident yet intimate, it’s a remarkable show. Four excellent poets were featured, but highlights undoubtedly came from the open mic section; after the scheduled act didn’t arrive, and following some audience encouragement, someone known only as Toby performed. His was a poem of unexpected and intense beauty: not bad for someone whose last name nobody caught. The final act was American duo Kane and G Yamazawa, who were just phenomenal. Their double act was intricately worded, immaculately rehearsed, funny and powerful. Don’t miss this, it’s wonderful.
The Banshee Labyrinth, until 26 Aug (not 7, 14, 21), 2.50pm.
