Hendrick’s Carnival Of Knowledge (Hendrick’s Gin)
By Arjun Sajip | Published on Tuesday 20 August 2013
Upon entering 1 Royal Circus, the place may seem like an odd mélange of ‘The Shining’ and ‘The Great Gatsby’. The décor and the costumes worn by the concierges seem rather inter-war, while the general atmosphere is one of seductive decadence. The ground floor comprises the main bar and the antechamber, both appropriately decked-out in tasteful inter-war paraphernalia; inside the bar, people mingle convivially, cocktails concocted for the delectation of all (I recommend the Rose Garden and the Edinburgh Mule). Upstairs is the office of ‘Professor Medwin’, a charming character who ‘opens the mind’, talks eloquently about creativity and cucumbers, and gives you free stuff. Talks and events are also held upstairs. Go even if only to imbibe the atmosphere.
Hendrick’s Carnival Of Knowledge, until 11 Aug, 12.00pm.
