Edinburgh Science, Edinburgh Magic (Ron Butlin)
By Natalia Equihua | Published on Friday 16 August 2013
If the castle lit by torches and the men marching in kilts haven’t yet transported you back in Edinburgh’s history, then this event will surely take you to the Middle Ages. Much in the style of ancient bards, Edinburgh’s Poet Laureate Ron Butlin tells witty, satirical, and surprising stories about Scotland’s capital city, in verse. The poetry is read with a jazz accompaniment performed by Dick Lee on the clarinet and bass clarinet, and Anne Evans on the flute. In a second Fringe as a trio, the group mainly focuses on the scientific side of Edinburgh, but covers other topics too, such as a satire on the construction of the tram. This is an entertaining and educational event, both for locals and newcomers.
Summerhall, until 15 Aug (not 9, 10), 3.30pm.
