Buddhist Meditation (Triratna Buddhist Community)
By Eddie Nisbet | Published on Tuesday 13 August 2013
Take tentative steps into Buddhist meditation with the Triratna Buddhist Company, but don’t expect to be immediately plunged headlong into a sea of tranquillity and self-awareness. Armed with foam mats, cushions and an appetite for inner contentment, guests are invited to huddle on the floor of the Edinburgh Buddhist Centre. Our amiable meditation teacher Sasanaratna begins with a brief spiel, covering vague concepts such as mindfulness and spaciousness. The two lengthy meditation sessions that followed threatened, at times, to descend into a group of strangers sharing a catnap. A little more clear instruction on how to effectively practice meditation would make this a worthwhile workshop for would-be Buddhists. As it is, the end result is more backache and dead legs than introspective enlightenment.
