Blofeld and Baxter – Memories Of Test Match Special (Neil O’Brien Entertainment Ltd)
By Robert Stuart | Published on Sunday 18 August 2013
Watching these two giants of the cricketing circle reminisce over days gone by certainly took the audience back to a different era. Blofeld and Baxter told some fantastic stories, from road trips to India to wine-guzzling broadcasters, albeit at a slightly slow pace. There were some old-fashioned values suggested by a few slightly unsavoury moments, notably in some less than tasteful impersonations of Indian accents. Nonetheless, witnessing this relaxed appreciation of the idiosyncratic world of cricket was enjoyable indeed, even to somebody with little interest in the sport. It shed a light on a pastime that is archetypal of the British identity. I wasn’t bowled over, but it did put a different spin on a game that I’d previously disregarded.
