At The Fringe Of Reason (Edinburgh Skeptics / PBH’s Free Fringe)
By Eilidh Johnstone | Published on Wednesday 21 August 2013
Deep in the bowels of the Banshee Layrinth, a robot is being passed around; and Professor Jon Timmis pauses to check, like an anxious parent, that everything is still in one piece. “So you see,” he continues, “the problem is – robots break.” Timmis, a man with more letters after his name than in it, is explaining why we needn’t worry about robots taking over the world. ‘At The Fringe Of Reason’ is a series of expert-led talks, on topics ranging from nanotechnology to astrology, from the point of education to the philosophy of time travel. This promises to be a fascinating series, ideal for anyone looking for some mental stimulation or just something a little different.
Banshee Labyrinth, until 24 Aug, 7.50pm.
