A Creation Myth for Scotland (David Campbell & Janis Mackay)
By Helena Wadia | Published on Friday 30 August 2013
Storytellers David Campbell, Janis Mackay and musician Wendy Weatherby attempt to tell a myth of how Scotland was created through just words and cello. After a bit of a long-winded introduction, the story telling began. The words were clear and vivid, descriptive and poetic, but the entire process was just a bit too slow to keep one fully engrossed for the entire hour. The musical interludes occasionally added expression but mostly felt a bit arbitrary. At points, the storytellers added in some song, but it mostly felt awkward and out of place. An overall good idea with well-written words that unfortunately didn’t captivate throughout.
