The Pageantry And Heraldry Of Scotland (Bannockburn Heraldic Banners)
By Jasmine Faller | Published on Wednesday 21 August 2013
‘The Pageantry And Heraldry Of Scotland’ is an exhibition in two parts. The first is the display of Bannockburn’s Heraldic Banners, which line the isles of the cathedral and represent some of the most famous knights who fought in 1314. The second part is a small and tucked-away display of some of the artefacts, replicas and photographs of artefacts associated with the visit of King George IV to Edinburgh. It’s a somewhat odd exhibition, of which the banners are the most visually prominent part. While gazing at these impressive felt replicas you might notice, as I did, that you’ve got your back to some unknown artist’s masterpiece, which is perhaps more deserving of your attention.
St Mary’s Cathedral, until 31 Aug, various times.
