Flodden And The Blue Blanket (Convenery Of Trades Of Edinburgh)
By Michael Black | Published on Wednesday 21 August 2013
There is too much information in this exhibition to absorb and most of it is dull. The Battle Of Flodden is no doubt an important historical event but the display has failed to make it accessible and interesting to those who have never heard of it before. However, there are friendly and enthusiastic guides who can put this right. The exhibition is interested in whether the tradesmen’s Blue Banner was present at The Battle Of Flodden, but it is hard not to wonder whether this seemingly trivial historical detail is worth discussing. Despite this the adjoining room about the Trades Maiden hospital, founded by Mary Erskine, provides some information about a mildly interesting educational institution set up in Edinburgh in 1704.
The Trades Maiden Hospital, until 27 Aug, 10.00am.
