Absolute Art (Jim Malcolm and Christophe Philibert)
By Michael Black | Published on Saturday 17 August 2013
Sadly, ‘Absolute Art’ fails to live up to its promising title. Christophe Philibert’s paintings have a naïve charm, but may come across as too simplistically colourful to be universally appreciated. Jim Malcolm has altered the texture of his photographs especially for the occasion, though it is not entirely clear that this adds anything. The works are on sale at affordable prices, so those in search of a whimsical souvenir may find something that takes their fancy, and the lack of formality may come as a refreshing change to the seasoned exhibition goer. Yet due to Leith’s distance from most events, only dedicated existing fans may be keen on making the extra trek.
Leith Library, Mon-Sat 10.00am-5.00pm, until 26 Aug.
