You All Know Me – I’m Jack Ruby (Clifford Barry)
By Jade Wilson | Published on Monday 26 August 2013
If you don’t happen to know who Jack Ruby is, he shot the man who allegedly shot JFK. This one-man show is an exploration of a character at the centre of this classic American conspiracy. It’s an interesting concept, but when there’s only one actor on stage they must gain the audience’s trust and draw them into the story. However, Jack Ruby is unlikeable from the start. Much of the monologue is directed at a stationary prison guard – if only he had patrolled up and down then more of the story could have been shared. An fascinating story, but Jack Ruby is just so sleazy that it feels like hard work spending an hour with him.
theSpace @ Surgeons Hall, until 24 Aug, (not 4, 11, 18), 2.00pm.
