The Smallest Light (Gramophones Theatre Company)
By Natalia Equihua | Published on Saturday 31 August 2013
“Is there anything that makes you angry and you would really like to change?” the four actresses ask us, echoing the question they asked themselves before starting this project. ‘Smallest Light’ is not a request to take action; it courageously questions why people protest, what they protest about, and what are the true outcomes. In exploring this theme, these four women have experimented with their own choice of direct action, such as fighting against sexism, or supporting local produce, and thus their performance is not a play but a live documentary, which combines video, storytelling and audience interaction. Don’t expect a prettified version of their activism; they bring an honest account of what it truly means to fight for a cause, and for that they deserve a standing ovation.
Zoo Southside, until 26 Aug, 5.50pm.
