The Rimers of Eldritch (American High School Theatre Festival)
By Melissa Steel | Published on Tuesday 20 August 2013
Bronxville High School Drama have produced a show about the decay of the American Dream that more experienced troupes at the Fringe would be proud of. The cast give understated portrayals of everyday people, keeping the tension and drama turned up, which is essential to stop the show becoming a farcical melodrama. Pulitzer Prize winner Lanford Wilson’s play coils tighter and tighter until it reaches it tragic end – the audience are witness to the growing hysteria and small-town suspicion, comparable with scenes from ‘The Crucible’. The stage can be a little crowded at times, distracting from whichever of the many strands of the story is playing out. Apart from that, this is an assured production.
Church Hill Theatre, until 10 Aug, times vary.
