Story Of Little Dombey (Snow Angels Theatre Company)
By Eleanor Lang | Published on Wednesday 21 August 2013
During the festival, you might imagine a reading in a library would be a little dry, but this engaging one man show was far from it. As part of the Charles Dickens Bicentennial celebrations, Jack Reid performed ‘Story of Little Dombey’, about a boy with deteriorating health and a non-childlike way of life. Wanting only the company of his sister, Dombey sits and stares whilst the father, ignoring his daughter, wants Dombey to carry on his business. The stage was small and simple, leaving all the emphasis on the words. The story was conveyed with clarity and charm, and I found this delivery gave me a new found appreciation for the wonderful lines that Dickens created.
National Library of Scotland, until 21 Aug, 12.00pm.
