She Dances With Fate (Two Pentacles)

By | Published on Saturday 10 August 2013

For a show branded memorably as a flamenco hip hopera, Two Pentacles have somehow managed to deliver a performance not worthy of any of those genre labels. A tale of Time, Fate and the evil figures of Día de Muertos controlling a vulnerable yet passionate flamenco dancer (if lots of wrist-twizzling and moody pouting count as flamenco), ‘She Dances with Fate’ blends piles of ideas into an unimaginative end production. Limp lyrics and a script pumped with maddening clichés made for taxing viewing. And that’s before taking into account the contemporary-style choreography dredged up from some forgotten part of the 90s, just in case the terrible poetry didn’t make you squirm on its own.

New Town Theatre, until 25 Aug, 9.50pm.
