Recalculating (BOMBSYTE Theatre)
By Kate Pasola | Published on Monday 26 August 2013
It sounds odd, but at times, the weary Fringe show-frequenter grows fatigued by provocative theatre. The heart strings become weathered; an over-abundance of richness leaves us hankering for the theatrical equivalent of a turkey dinosaur and beans. ‘Recalculating’ is just that. This informal production, which felt like a live episode of ‘The Inbetweeners’, for some reason hit the spot. Not particularly impressively staged nor excitingly scripted; just a group of believable actors, whose tangible excitement to be performing was somehow warming and enjoyable to watch. Don Morrissey and Kyle Garner were particularly droll, with subtle yet tickling performances. You’ll find this funny if you’re under twenty (or a parent of teenagers) and are in the mood for some guilty-pleasure easy-watching.
Spotlites @ The Merchant Hall, until 26 Aug, 7.35pm.
