Rave Generation (Apteam Productions)
By Kyung Oh | Published on Monday 26 August 2013
A disciplinary meeting with an after school dance teacher turns into a rave. This premise is unfortunately hampered by a bland story and dialogue that staggers from one part to the next; and it seemed tired and predictable to see three frigid characters open up and make life-changing decisions for the first time after taking drugs. There also seemed to be a preachy message behind it all. Putting forward the idea that MDMA is somehow a saving force, which would solve all of society’s problems, the play lobbied a bit too hard for my taste. But it was very entertaining to see the stage turn into a rave with the actors dancing wildly to a laser show. So, generally a weak production, but one with moments of visual spectacle.
Paradise in Augustine’s, until 26 Aug, 4.50pm.
