ED2013 4/5 Reviews ED2013 Theatre Reviews
Positive (West Avenue Theatre Company)
By Priyanka Raval | Published on Sunday 25 August 2013
To be honest, when the performance began it felt a bit GSCE drama play-esque; awkward and straight-from-the-script deliveries, it really begged for better direction. Thankfully, the cast seemed to warm up and there was infinite improvement as it went on. A truly heart-warming story and an excellently written script, which perfectly and expertly combined tragedy and comedy, salvaged this performance so that by the end I could conclude that ‘Positive’ merited a positive review. It tells the story of Benji, an ordinary man living with HIV, and poignantly depicts his anxiety, his fears and the strain it puts on his family, friends and love life. Simultaneously saddening and uplifting, this is an extremely inspirational story, and a real insight into a much misunderstood disease.
Paradise @ the Kirkhouse, until 26 Aug, 2.00pm.
