Medea (KUDOS)
By Sophie Baggott | Published on Friday 30 August 2013
An infusion of class into this age-old saga made this production striking from the word go. A strict trio of black, white, and red for the costumes and staging chimed with the passion of the plot. The dramatic use of lighting electrified the tension, particularly the back-lighting which cast ominous shadows in the final scenes. Liz Rodgers as Medea wrenched emotion from her lines, which were delivered with confidence and gripping ardour. The backing music seasoned the onstage action well – air sirens proving an unusually effective choice. Dialogue could have been even more compelling with a touch more movement; but nonetheless this was an arresting take on ancient theatre. Kudos to KUDOS.
