Kafka’s A Report To An Academy (Mantik Productions)

By | Published on Tuesday 27 August 2013

This show starts strangely, beginning with a man wearing only his pants. He then slowly begins to dress in an ape costume, before shoving a suit on top. After this notable feat, the play gets a little slow, but picks up in the middle, with the character describing how people tick, and how to learn their ways. But the choice to begin the play with a man becoming an ape is a little confusing, as the concept of the piece is an ape who becomes human. Had he first appeared on stage in costumed attire, the undressing at the end, and the revelation of his humanity, would have had more impact.

Gryphon Venues at the Point Hotel, until 17 Aug (not 11), 7.00pm.
