In Tune With Dementia (Howard Timms)
By Rory Morgan | Published on Friday 16 August 2013
As suggested by the title, this is not a play to be taken lightly. In a one-man show, Howard Timms retells the agonising experience of witnessing his mother develop and suffer from severe dementia. A hugely impactful performance, it is a beautifully written piece, and much can be forgiven, such as Timms’ slightly unrefined style. Everything has a sincere and delicate air, and Timms manages to avoid the pitfalls of melodrama that often come with more difficult subject matters, and resists any element of mawkishness. Instead, what we are presented with is a show that is very real, and very raw.
