How Hard Do You Hum When You Cum (Queen Mary Theatre Company)
By Joseph Trotter | Published on Friday 30 August 2013
Sexual dancing monologues. Although it may sound like the bastard child of John Cooper Clarke and a stripper, ‘How Hard Do You Hum When You Cum’ is surprisingly sensitive. At times a little crass (girl talks about making a sandwich – apparently it’s funny because she’s the fattest of the troupe) and at others utterly baffling, but for the most part this is fun and endearing. The company reveal their sexual encounters, fears, and problems of the abdomen in a series of well-staged monologues, using the unusual space of Venue 45 to good effect. It’s not brilliant, and it’s probably not as clever or as profound as it thinks it is, but it will certainly keep you pleasantly occupied until dinner.
