Forever 27 (Patrick Seymour)
By Jasmine Faller | Published on Sunday 18 August 2013
‘Forever 27’ is a one-man play which tells the story of Mark, who, upon hearing of Amy Winehouse’s death, decides to follow suit; to die by his 28th birthday. Funny in parts, and with many gay cultural references, this play is lighter than it perhaps aims to be given the subject matter. Though very well acted by Patrick Seymour, it’s difficult to empathise with a character so shallow and selfish. Ultimately, what could have been a deep and thought provoking insight into the mind of a man who’s decides to die instead becomes a peek into the mind of a mostly unthinking stereotype. Occasionally witty, but mostly a bit vapid.
New Town Bar, until 15 Aug (not 9, 10), 10.30pm.
