ED2013 4/5 Reviews ED2013 Theatre Reviews
For The Trumpets Shall Sound (Another Story Theatre Company)
By Imogen Calderwood | Published on Saturday 10 August 2013
Prompted by the discovery of a diary, James and his mother piece together the wartime life of his great granddad, and also discover his two real loves. This is a poignant piece of writing, full of British stiff upper-lip and presenting a rarely explored side of wartime tragedy. The songs are beautifully selected and performed, both strengthening the setting and the mood of the scenes. It’s not a perfectly polished play, and the device of a found object leading to the discovery of an untold history is by no means unique. But the rawness of the emotion, and the really very accomplished acting, produces a quality of performance that will stay with you.
C aquila, until 17 Aug, 6.45pm.
