Fast Film Noir (Braindead Theatre Company)

By | Published on Sunday 18 August 2013

It’s hard to resist the sultry starlets, sharp suits and dashing detectives of Film Noir, so it is little wonder Braindead Theatre Company have based their production on this genre. Modelling the show on the archetypal film noir ‘The Big Sleep’, the company delivers an hour of classy entertainment that Hollywood would be proud of. Director Cathy Hudson understands the tropes of the genre well, transporting you to the silver screen of the 1940s. From flickering car chases to ice queens secretly boiling with desire, ‘Fast Film Noir’ ticks all the boxes. Sometimes it can feel a little more Bugsy than Bogart, but the young cast still capture the genre’s spirit with startling maturity. A rare, considered understanding of an iconic style of film.
