Fantastical Adventures In The Mundane (325 Productions)
By Kyung Oh | Published on Monday 26 August 2013
A writer is finishing up a book. The death of his girlfriend still looms over him. Halfway through the play, the character Death enters, and tries to convince the writer to take up his job. Though there were moments of humour in this play’s dialogue, the tone was overall too monochrome, and the focus of the play also felt confused: are we reflecting on the process of writing, on the writer as a character who is still grieving, or on the character Death? And why does Death want to quit his job anyway? These elements felt underdeveloped and didn’t tie in together. The play would benefit from adding to its momentum, and developing its several threads in a more coherent way.
Sweet Grassmarket, until 26 Aug, 2.35pm.
