Duvet Dave (Bath University Student Theatre)
By James Hampson | Published on Tuesday 27 August 2013
The titular Dave is a homeless man, asleep on a bench and surrounded by arrogant smirking youths who mock his vagabond existence. Flashback a few years, and it transpires that Dave was once arrogant, smirking and young himself, leaving university with a sense of ennui and a lack of direction familiar to many graduates. The play is essentially a series of finger wags, from Dave’s friends, parents and civil servants, as his situation becomes ever more drastic, and the story bounds along with the protagonist’s homelessness coming on like a steam-train. But there’s little insight into who Dave is or why he does what he does (nothing). A morality tale with no real morality, it will leave you somewhat dissatisfied.
theSpace @ Surgeons Hall, until 7 Aug, 3.05pm.
