Dark Matter (Vision Mechanics)

You will be equipped with headphones and a big black poncho in the back of a pub then off you trudge down a quiet little road into a suburban garden in Leith; it feels like you are part of a conspiracy before the show has even started. There’s an irony that a place so British, so familiar, can morph into such a strange experience; theatrical lighting and the live audio elevates someone’s lawn into a fantastical and mysterious space. Writhing around in the wet grass, the actress recounts a story of longing, but the concept became a distraction from the solo performance as I sat in a soggy camping chair working out whether the birds were real or not.
Summerhall, until 24 Aug (not 18), 10.00pm.
