Cherry On Top (Mustard Seed Productions)
By Eleanor Lang | Published on Saturday 10 August 2013
Within an Indian society in South Africa, Prasheem lays comatose. Two women, one his secret lover, the other his wife, meet on opposite sides of his hospital bed. Both claim he loved them best, but this conflict can only be resolved by a man unable to answer for himself. The comedy drama’s script included interesting issues, however lacked the originality and pace to convey them well. Stock staging and transitions stopped the piece from flowing or feeling fresh and risky. However, the acting was clear, funny, and had some cutting comedic lines. Krijay’s acting was superbly warm and human throughout and Leeanda’s character filled the stage energetically. I’ll leave you to decide who was his one and only “Cherry”.
