Bitch Boxer (Snuff Box Theatre, Richard Jordan Productions In Association with Pleasance)
By Kyung Oh | Published on Thursday 22 August 2013
Though Chloe is a first-rate boxer on the verge of qualifying for the London Olympics, our most prominent impression of her is a humanising one. She hobbles through the house frantically, having overslept; she hops over fences after being locked out of her house; she is head over heels for her boyfriend (whom she met in a club called Destiny). With an aversion to articulated sincerity, she sheepishly beams when she is pleased, and when hardships strike, she’d rather focus more deeply on her training than mope. Her language and mannerisms are pitch perfect as a 21-year-old East Londoner, and the fight scenes are very tastefully done with the exactly right pace. An enthralling story of a courageous, endearing young woman. You must see this.
Pleasance Courtyard, until 25 Aug, 11.30am.
