Biding Time (Remix) (Tromolo Productions)
By Dave Fargnoli | Published on Thursday 22 August 2013
Remixing a multimedia project that began in the eighties, this complex collaboration explores fame and failure through the story of a band selling its artistic soul. Featuring live music transmitted to the audience via headphones, stylised movement, a giant white rabbit and flickering video projection on two walls, there’s a risk of sensory overload. It’s held together by site-specific pioneer Ben Harrison’s sure directorial hand, and singer Louise Quinn’s charismatic performance. Actor Martin McCormick provides both comic and sinister touches as a masochistic bunny and other bizarrely costumed characters who comment on proceedings throughout. At times this is abstract. At times it feels like the Mighty Boosh performing in a David Lynch movie. However it’s always absorbing and unique.
Summerhall, until 12 Aug, 9.00pm.
