Between (FOURWORD Productions)
By Katharine Wootton | Published on Tuesday 20 August 2013
With a scatter of Shakespearean sonnets at their feet, FOURWORD Productions launch into an impassioned ode to the many forms of love. Encompassing boyishly naïve relationships and adolescences crammed with curiosity and fuelled by rapacious libidos, ‘Between’ is a steamy insight into male sexuality, both at its most physical and metaphysical. Darting between scenes, building up a patchwork of perspectives on male relationships, this production loses its way when lust takes over, overshadowing the show’s more sensitive moments. Here the attempt to boldly portray bodies raging with testosterone falls into the gratuitous, feeling wantonly showy. It’s a shame, as with a touch more tact this could have become a really original, intriguing exploration of contemporary manhood.
