After What Comes Before (Manic Chord Theatre)
By Imogen Calderwood | Published on Tuesday 20 August 2013
Three madcap scientists cook up a scheme to extract thoughts, with the vague eventual aim of taking over the world. Whilst the plan itself is never made clear in its entirety, it results in a production full of witticisms, physical farce, and general silliness. Although chock-a-block with wonderful ideas and enthusiasm, the production is a bit rough around the edges. The movement sequences are well choreographed but need polishing. The style of acting – switching rapidly between emotions with smatterings of vocal acrobatics – is fresh, and very well intentioned. With an excellent script and obviously talented cast, a bit more rehearsal time and Manic Chord Theatre will have a really great production to offer.
Greenside, until 24 Aug (not 11, 18), 8.50pm.
