ED2013 1/5 Reviews ED2013 Dance & Physical Theatre Reviews
Densetsu (Legend) (Senior Musical Theatre Company Hokkijuku [Japan])

For their first Fringe, this troupe of more than fifty men and women prepared a series of sketches focusing on the topics of the likes of the art of ninjas, a Cinderella re-make, and my favourite: a geisha dance turn modern. But it soon became clear these are not professional performers: the director was always on the back reminding the actors of their lines, so it felt almost like a school play, where the pride of seeing your child on stage makes up for a lack of quality in the performance. In this case, the effort of the group was clear but not enough to keep you engaged or amused. I applaud the fact that this group overcame any obstacles to be here and hope their performance develops with time. Yet, their inexperience made it clear this is not a show worth paying for.
