ED2013 3/5 Reviews ED2013 Dance & Physical Theatre Reviews
Second Coming (Scottish Dance Theatre)
By Jasmine Faller | Published on Monday 26 August 2013
There’s something decidedly studenty about ‘Second Coming’, both in presentation and in wit. Choreographed by Victor Quijada, the dancing is very good, even if the setup and theatrics can be a bit cringe-worthy. They take elements from hip hop and breakdancing, giving them a little more grace and feeling that is usual for those forms. The imagery of tracing the body runs throughout and is used very effectively. The dancing is beautifully executed by the talented young performers – I just wish there was more of it, and that they didn’t waste so much time on trying (and often failing) to be funny. As a comedy show it bombs, the dance section however, is excellent.
Zoo Southside, until 25 Aug, 7.30pm.
