Sinatra – The Final Curtain (Kingdom Theatre Company)
By Katharine Wootton | Published on Tuesday 27 August 2013
Think Frank Sinatra does ‘This is Your Life’, with a sprinkle of musical interludes and you’ve got the premise for this new musical. As ol’ blue eyes lies ill in hospital, he reflects on the marriages, mates and music that made him a star, crooning back through the years and the classics. An absolute must-see for hardened Sinatra fans who want to hear all the hits delivered with uncanny authenticity and sparkling vocals; but as a work of musical theatre, it doesn’t always hit the spot. A bit anaemic on script and far better suited to live band backing (keyboard pre-records just don’t do Sinatra justice), it needs a bit of a ‘kick’ to get things really swinging and schmoozing.
Whitespace, until 24 Aug (not 12, 19), 8.15pm.
