Godspell (Forth Children’s Theatre)
By Katharine Wootton | Published on Sunday 18 August 2013
If the thought of a church-hall musical crammed with gurning young performers and gushing parents sends a chill down your spine, go see Forth Children’s Theatre as they are far from the expected. Instead you’ll be set a-shivering by the outstanding performances of a mammoth cast, who, once they get harmonising, would not sound out of place on the professional stage. Claiming this still new-feeling musical, using the Bible’s stories as its backdrop, as their own, Forth Children’s Theatre create a finely staged, near pitch-perfect show, buzzing with glorious tunes you will find near impossible not to bellow out as you find your way home. Hallelujah for such a hearty community production that sings out with terrifyingly terrific young talent.
Inverleith Church Hall, until 10 Aug, 7.30pm.
