Freak Show (Royal Conservatoire Of Scotland and Noisemaker Productions)
By Kate Pasola | Published on Monday 12 August 2013
Focusing on the personal lives of acts in a Victorian Side Show, this newly written production could have been dangerously close to cliché. But the sumptuously lit and divinely accompanied show, written in collaboration with Noisemaker Productions, was a marvel. An intelligent structure meant the show was relentlessly gripping, a triumphant showcase of RCS’s cornucopia of talent. A captivating Conor Scully led us through the ‘attractions’, including the tremendously talented Lauren Norris as The Half-Lady, and although some of the cast sounded a little strained at the top part of their range, their raucous projection in its place seasoned the terrific music with a furious passion. Make a visit to Freak Show and become the next awestruck audience offering a standing ovation.
