ED2013 2/5 Reviews ED2013 Musical Reviews
Eurobeat – Almost Eurovision (Sarajevo) (Wellington College)
By Christie Rolley | Published on Sunday 18 August 2013
Given the UK’s love/hate relationship with the Eurovision song contest, this musical which creates a mock version of the contest could be seen as treading a precarious line between parody and disaster. Thankfully ‘Eurobeat’s’ commitment to novelty, such as the handing out of clackers and flags and asking the audience to text in their votes, retains the interest of audience members who might not be mega fans of the song contest itself. However once the excitement of clacking bits of plastic in time to eurotrash music wears off some of performances themselves leave a little to be desired. With some notable exceptions the singing was mediocre and despite numerous extravagant costume changes, this began to get monotonous.
C, until 10 Aug, 5.30pm.
