Alaska’s King Island Christmas (Alaska’s King Island Christmas Singers)
By Elaine Teng | Published on Sunday 18 August 2013
A Christmas story from the edge of the world, this heart-warming musical is great for families and those in search of holiday cheer. The chorus of all ages sings energetically about a remote village’s quest to bring supplies and the village priest to shore in the midst of an Arctic storm. Relying on small town charm, the story is too saccharine sweet and some of the notes are not quite in tune. The strange song of a walrus’ journey to becoming the skin of a boat is cringe inducing, saved only by the sweetness of the young singer. A nice outing for families with young children, this Christmas story is definitely not one for cynics or the hard of heart.
Gryphon Venues at the Point Hotel, until 9 Aug, times vary.
