The Art Of Self Improvement (Ragweed)
By Samantha Strachan | Published on Saturday 31 August 2013
I find that losing a sense (such as sight) doesn’t so much enhance the others as much as it makes me paranoid. So, blindfolded for the duration of this performance, it was hard for me to relax and focus on Ragweed’s ‘scuzzy rock’ songs and their story about an ex-convict reconnecting with the world. The music was okay, but not the usual style to sit and listen to; a mosh pit would have been a more appropriate setting. The story itself didn’t seem to serve any purpose other than a garish attempt to amuse and shock. With the barrier created by the blindfold at ‘The Art Of Self Improvement’, I couldn’t help feeling as though a trick was being played on me and everyone else was in on it.
