Orkney Jazz At The Guildford (Ken Ramage and Friends 10th Annual Jazz Jamboree)
By James Hampson | Published on Sunday 18 August 2013
It can be a stressful business, enjoying yourself, especially at the Fringe. Trudging down the packed Royal Mile and still blushing about all those nasty things Red Bastard said to you, it’s not uncommon to cry out for a break. Luckily, tucked away in the beautiful Guildford Arms off Princes Street is this nightly jazz line-up, in a relaxed and chatty atmosphere with a good selection of drinks and free entry. The bands play all kinds of old-fashioned, foot-tapping jazz, from Dixieland to New Orleans to Swing. The sets are lackadaisical and easygoing, with frequent breaks to allow the band, and you, to get a refill. The whole night feels exactly as a jazz night should- homely, comfortable, free and easy.
Guildford Arms, until Aug 14, 9.00pm.
