Marilyn Monroe – A Celebration In Song (Pam Lawson)
By Lauren Stephen | Published on Monday 19 August 2013
Pam Lawson and her band transported the audience to an old Hollywood jazz club in a tribute to the life and work of Marilyn Monroe. A charming and intimate set sees Lawson adopt the character of the 50s starlet as she performs a variety of Monroe’s best loved musical numbers. Lawson shines during ‘River of No Return’ and ‘Some Like It Hot’, flirting with her audience, fully embracing Monroe herself. Pianist Tom Finlay and bassist Ed Kelly create the perfect backing to Lawson’s soothing voice. At times the performance verges on becoming wedding singer-like and could be condensed into a shorter, cleaner set, but it’s still perfect for vintage Hollywood fans, and those who want to relax at the Festival.
Sweet Grassmarket, until 18 Aug, 1.00pm.
