John Hunt Four O’Clock Afternoon Blues And Swing (John Hunt / 21st Century Blues Legends)
By Stephanie Gray | Published on Saturday 31 August 2013
Armed with mutant, homemade guitars John Hunt charms the packed Jazz Bar with his funny anecdotes and deep, soulful voice. Though half of the audience doesn’t have a seat, Hunt keeps the entire bar entertained with ease, telling stories of Uncle Jack (married at 73) and an encounter with a priest, among many others. He explains that he follows no set list, preferring to make it up as he goes along. This works well, keeping up a good pace and ensuring the audience can never predict what is coming next. For such a small gig, Hunt really does both surprise and impress – to both jazz fans and those who’ve turned up to experience the genre for the first time.
The Jazz Bar, until 24 Aug (not 5-6, 11-14, 18-21), 4.00pm.
