ED2013 3/5 Reviews ED2013 Music Reviews
Absolutely Free Live Music

While the set list comfortably reflected the choices available from a regular pub’s jukebox, Martin and Duncan (the latter will be playing again on Friday) played with confidence and gusto and created a performance that made a highly suitable accompaniment to the tasty draught ales and warm atmosphere of the tavern. Using a prerecorded rhythm section to add depth, the guitarists invoked Scottish heritage and tourism with ‘Caledonia’, but their rendition of ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ captured the disjointed and unimaginative tone of their performance, albeit skillfully played. The Tavern hosts different musicians every night of the week throughout the festival meaning that this cosy environment will be home to some real blinders of a night as the festival gets going.
The Royal Mile Tavern, until 1 Sep, 9.30pm.
