Rubberbandits
By Clare Dolan | Published on Saturday 31 August 2013
The audience tumble into a room without seats and grumbles ensue. The Rubberbandits emerge, distinctive plastic bags on heads, rampant with energy. Some people seem alarmed by the prospect of the next hour; some even leave. The Limerick lads warn us that they are not comedians; rather, they are hard core rappers and we are informed that there are only three jokes in the show. Sadly the number of laughs heard throughout does little to refute this claim, for while their crude songs are indeed catchy – and a few true fans even sing along in the front row – the rest of the audience stand stiffly still, and little is done to remedy this until the encore, by which point it’s too late.
Gilded Balloon Teviot, until 26 Aug, 10.40pm.
