Vampire Hospital Waiting Room (Beach Comet Theatricals)
By Shiv Das | Published on Thursday 22 August 2013
The NHS wants your blood to feed the underworld of vampires! Beach Comet Theatricals present a whirlwind musical comedy; engrossing and leaving you asking for more. It’s reminiscent of Garth Marenghi’s ‘Darkplace’, with it’s surrealist and unreservedly whimsical storyline. Each character, from the vampire-obsessed, tumultuous Dr Bloom, to the a boyishly handsome Jack the Lad Scotsman, has a song to sing and performs fantastically. Enhanced by the presence of a talented pianist, who keeps the pace of this riveting B-comedy flowing smoothly, the show manages to combine originality with light-hearted humour. They pack as much vampire-related material as humanly possible onto a small stage, without appearing too jumbled or crowded, from gravestones to a gigantic coffin. A highly commendable performance.
Laughing Horse @ City Cafe, until 25 Aug, 4.15pm.
