Tony Law – Nonsense Overdrive (Tony Law / The Stand Comedy Club / Show And Tell)
By Arjun Sajip | Published on Monday 12 August 2013
For the uninitiated, Tony Law’s set may take some getting used to, what with the leaps from one topic to the next, the absurdity, and the scattered references. But once you’re strapped in tight, it’s difficult not to enjoy the ride. His ‘material’ (which he is often deprecating about, presumably to suggest that his show is more improvised than it actually is) is varied and usually funny, whether he’s talking about deep space, middle-class dinner parties or superheroes. The fact that he has a dedicated fan-base, enormous originality, and massive air of confidence gave me the impression that he won’t really care what this review says. If the idea of a funny and less irritating Keith Lemon OD’ing on Eddie Izzard appeals to you, you’ll probably rather enjoy it.
The Stand Comedy Club, until 26 Aug (not 12), 12.40pm.
