Tony Law – Night-Time Nonsense Overdrive (Show And Tell / Assembly Rooms)
By Polly Davidson | Published on Saturday 31 August 2013
Tony Law’s comedy is wonderfully all over the place. The chaotic comedian’s far-fetched ramblings range from bizarre to simply surreal – from teaching the Romans how to lean, to his need for the assistance of a space bear. Amongst all his frivolity, Law also avoids going for the cheapest laughs, with some of the best, least derogatory wife material I can remember hearing. At times this felt a little bit too rough around the edges, with some of his asides and anecdotes getting lost behind another quickly put-on accent, or whilst responding to a departing audience member. Nonetheless, Law’s wild and explosive approach is as refreshing as it is haphazard. He may be full on, but at least he’s definitely funny.
The Assembly Rooms, 25 Aug, 7.40pm.
