The Edinburgh Revue – Sketch Show (The Edinburgh Revue / PBH’s Free Fringe)
By Peter Dorman | Published on Thursday 15 August 2013
There is a great feeling of accomplishment to be had from finding a truly great free show. Unfortunately, the only feeling invoked by this show is disappointment. A student group perform a string of wacky sketches, including a Nazi master-chef, a bread crazed poet and a grand slam checkers tournament. A well-rehearsed show, delivered aptly and with youthful exuberance. However, that is where the positives come to a grinding halt. The substance of the sketches is weak and unfunny, received with deafening silence, or at best a slight titter. After a lacklustre beginning, all hopes of things improving are dashed and the audience left thoroughly unsatisfied. One to avoid.
Opium, until 24 Aug (not 7, 14, 21), 2.45pm.
